Suggester says: This is utterly an amazing picture of a snow flake. The time and effort to get such a picture of something that if you breath on it will melt is astounding to me. My hands get cold thinking about how long it would have taken to get this picture. ( Suggested by ~RubedoReqium and Featured by ^hellfirediva )

Rad. 100mm.. was this the f/2.8L? I didn't even think to try for a snow flake! Was there a ring flash as well?

Non-L version. Since non-L is optically almost the same as L, I cannot justify buying a red ringed one, althouhg I would wanted to of course. No ring flash, just remote flash in a Lambency sphere diffuser just about 15cm to the left of the camera. Quite a cropping and drastical tone curve adjustment.

Seems like you're doing just fine with the non-L version. :) I went with it myself, but I had extra money to burn.

There is very little difference in image sharpness. L has the edge, in bokeh and few more lines per mm resolutions, but unlike you, I bought this lens on a very tight budget. Used, but in mint condition for $400, so no-brainer :)
